Our all new Sisterlocks Setting Lotion is here! We heard you and here it is: a styling lotion specially formulated for Sisterlocks. With this one a little goes a long way so, use sparingly along the length of the hair. Our setting lotion contains aloe, a very effect moisturizer, so using too much may take longer to dry. Be certain to allow your hair to dry thoroughly for the best set.

Hear first hand what students have to say about their experience, and why we boast with pride that our program is like nothing you’ll find anywhere else! In the same way that Sisterlocks is not just about a hairstyle, our training classes are not just about teaching a technique. Most of all, we strive to prepare our students to be the best professionals they can be!

Example: I’ve worn Sisterlocks for over 10 years. I’ve lived in the same neighborhood all that time and have socialized with my neighbor on a regular basis, going to lunch, chatting at each other’s homes, etc. Recently, while checking our mail together she made the comment, “Oh, you got your extensions put in longer this time, huh?!”
I let her know that this was my hair and not extensions. I was so surprised that all this time she assumed this wasn’t my hair!
Q. I’m getting conflicting information on how many locks you should have in order to have Sisterlocks. I have 315 locks. Do I have Sisterlocks?
A. That’s an excellent question, thank you. Without seeing your hair, it’s impossible to determine if your locks are adequate in number. You may contact our Training Supervisor: Michelle@sisterlocks.com and she can help you with your concerns.
In our training classes we give very specific information on how to do the Sisterlocks technique. We provide a range of 400-450 locks, as an average number of locks for an average head. There are exceptions and like any “science” there are very few absolutes. There are exceptions to those recommended numbers. For instance, we take into consideration: the size of the head, whether the hair is very dense or very thin – including alopecia – and various other factors. A consultation (and sample locks) with a Consultant or Trainee is necessary prior to having your hair locked.

That Hair Thing explores the many, often unspoken questions we all have about black women’s hair. It clarifies the complex connections between hair styling choices and identity, self-worth and personal empowerment. It challenges and delights as it explains why hair is such a compelling issue for African American women. Dr. Cornwell’s wit and probing insight take a much discussed topic to a new level.

o often we’re asked questions about children and Sisterlocks. How young does a child have to be to get Sisterlocks? Will my child be subjected to peer pressure because of his/her locks? How do I get him/her to sit through maintenance session?
Based on your concerns we’ve dedicated a section of the Blog to Children and Locks. We look forward to the dialogue on this topic. This journey, for children, can be very fun and freeing but it can also have a few challenges along the way. Please check in often for information on this subject.
