Dr. Cornwell’s Summer 2013 Message
Celebrate The 20th Anniversary of Sisterlocks With Us!
Greetings!

It’s getting hot in here..! And we’re gearing up for the 20th Anniversary Sisterlocks Cruise. That’s right, we’re sailing the seas to Grand Turk, Ocho Rios and Nassau, Bahamas with special land events in Ocho Rios and the Bahamas to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sisterlocks.

I can hardly believe it’s been 20 years. That’s worthy of celebration because for 20 years we have worked through a lot of challenges to maintain the integrity of our brand. We’ve challenged the status quo, taken on the nay-sayers and imitators and we’ve persevered. We’re very protective of the Sisterlocks brand because it has proven to be what makes us the sought after solution for natural hair. It gives me great pleasure to hear people say, “I love my Sisterlocks.”

A huge part of my focus and dedication for the past 20 years has been developing a training program that produces the best professionals in the industry. Those professionals make me very proud. We’ve developed on-going coaching and training for our Consultants and most are dedicated to pursuing those opportunities. Our training doesn’t stop there. We have classes for clients who want to learn to re-tighten or style their own hair, too.

Another HUGE focus of mine has been to develop a product line that does everything I need and want it to do for my hair (the original Sisterlocks) and then I know it will maintain the integrity of the locks of other Sisterlocks wearers. It pains me deeply when I hear stories of people who claim they are unaware that there are Sisterlocks products and are using other products on their Sisterlocks.

Trust me, it is not easy or inexpensive to have a private hair care product line. So, why do I do it? Because I understand the desire to maintain healthy hair and since I was the first to have Sisterlocks, I know firsthand what other formulated products did to my hair. I didn’t want that for myself or those who wanted Sisterlocks. Remember, the problems associated with what you put on your hair today may not show up right away. So, to ensure you’re not damaging your hair I encourage you to buy and use Sisterlocks products.

As you can see I’ve been busy over the past 20 years. You’ve probably noticed I’ve used “I and we” interchangeably in this post. That’s because throughout these 20 years, I have not been alone. I’ve always had the support of my sisters and the rest of my family; a wonderful Home Office Staff; a fabulous Training Team, wonderful Consultants and Trainees and an ever-growing family of Sisterlocks supporters – You!

I hope to see you on the cruise but if not, here’s how you can celebrate the 20th Anniversary (and beyond) of Sisterlocks with us:

1.) Buy and use Sisterlocks products. They really are BEST for your Sisterlocks.
2.) Take our 4-Day Training Class or recommend it to someone you know who is “that hair person” in your world.
3.) Take one of our Specialty Classes (Hands on Styling, Coloring with Care or Troubleshooting and Fixing Things).

Post a response and let me know which way you’re celebrating with us!

      I have one question:
I wash my hair using Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner because I read on other websites that’s what some black women have been using. It helps my hair, and I use coconut oil in my hair once a week. Is it all right if I still use them?

I’ll share a post from my Facebook page in hopes that it addresses your question regarding product. To add to that, the products you purchase ‘over the counter’ from drug stores, beauty supply stores, etc., are not formulated with your Sisterlocks in mind. I do not recommend them. Here’s the post:

“Should I use oils, butters, etc. on my Sisterlocks?” This question comes up all the time. Those oils and butter, etc. will have a long-term undesirable effect on your locks – build-up. It won’t show up right away, but it will over time. Sisterlocks is an all-inclusive natural hair care system. It was intentional to develop Sisterlocks products as a part of that system to provide everything needed to maintain the integrity of Sisterlocks. It was intentional to develop the products with ingredients that wouldn’t create build-up in the locks and would provide the exact amount of moisture needed to maintain healthy locks/hair. The Sisterlocks product line was developed intentionally so that you do not have to go out and figure out how to maintain the integrity of your Sisterlocks. It’s all here for you. Shampoos, conditioners, setting lotion, holding spray – you name it, it’s all here and you can order today: http://www.sisterlocks.com. Please share

My sisterlocks are unraveling on the ends especially after i was my hair and i keep trimming the ends to make my hair look neat, so by this my hair isnt acquiring any length, and I’m not trying to cut them out since i’m going thru menupause. Please Help. FYI I live in the Detroit area and I’ve tried several Consultants, however the majority are in it for the money, and lack professionalism for their clients inregards to hair care,,,…How can I keep the sicssors out my hair?

      • Sisterlocks Home Office Moderator says:

Great question! Please stop rimming your ends, this will cause them to unravel. The locking process starts at the tips and works up to the root; by trimming your ends you’re impeding the locking process. “Looking neat” isn’t always accomplished during certain stages of the locking process.

It’s unfortunate that you haven’t been able to settle down to one Consultant, which is advisable so they can follow your lock process more closely. We encourage all Consultants to maintain professionalism and most do. Consultants are professionals and deserve to be paid for the time, knowledge and expertise. A consultation can often help determine if the personalities are a good match, if you fully understand the process and if you’re able to follow the directions given to assist in maintaining the integrity of your Sisterlocks.

        Good luck on your journey.
